Explore in a group of 20-25 aboard our privately chartered 75 passenger ship.
When you journey to Egypt and ply the legendary waters of the Nile on this Small Ship Adventure, you’ll experience a land of superlatives. In Giza, stand in the 4,500-year-old shadow of the only Wonder of the Ancient World that still remains. A stone’s throw away, in the necropolis of Sakkara, witness the oldest pyramid on Earth stair-stepping up from the sand as a testament to the ingenuity of the 27th century BC. In Luxor, “the world’s largest open-air museum,” amble among the 200 acres of Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex outside of Asia. There, and on the opposite bank of the Nile, marvel at the grand monuments immortalizing Queen Hatshepsut—Egypt’s longest-serving female ruler.
But there’s more to Egypt than its timeless temples and millennia of history. With more than 95 million inhabitants clustered along its life-giving waterway, Egypt is a hive of energy and culture, and you’ll experience it more intimately in your small group of 20-25 travelers. During your seven nights in Cairo, you’ll hear the call of the muezzin ring out at prayer time; spot men smoking shisha in cafes and teenagers tending to the family’s pigeon coop; and stroll through buzzing bazaars alongside women and children, inhaling the heady aromas of cumin, cardamom, and saffron.
When you venture beyond the urban centers, you’ll share a meal and personal stories with subsistence farmers and have the opportunity to shop for locally made wares at night markets along the Nile. Through it all, you’ll be joined by a Trip Experience Leader, who will not only share insights into local life—including how Egypt is finding its footing in a post-Arab Spring world—but, as a trained Egyptologist, will also bring the country’s past tribulations and triumphs into clear focus.
At the heart of this Small Ship Adventure is a seven-night cruise along the mighty Nile. Aboard the recently refurbished, 75 passenger Nefertiti, you’ll witness Egypt’s wonders just as Agatha Christie and Antony and Cleopatra did. From your private balcony, gaze out upon scenes of everyday life, from cows grazing on tall grasses, to felucca boats gliding alongside you. And in the welcoming common areas, mingle with your fellow American travelers and delight in the personalized attention of our friendly crew, for an experience that is as comfortable as it is inspiring.
